"I've been stopped several times. I've been stopped by housing police as well. Once I was walking down 3rd Avenue heading home from my aunt's house. I was dressed in black. Plain clothes officers rolled up in a car going the wrong way down the avenue, and all four cops get out. They said, "Why are you wearing all black?" I said, "it's not a crime to where black." They patted me down anyway. It's so horrible, and girls are walking by while I'm getting searched. It's become normal. Most people who are searched won't even file a complaint. I know I'm going to get searched again by the 23rd Precinct or by the PSA5 housing unit. I try to change the way I dress: I don't wear red or all black or any gang-affiliated colors. I stay home or stay away from places that are considered troubled areas."

"I have been stopped and frisked on several occasions. I've been searched and I received an open container ticket for somebody else. I found a way to avoid them-- I stay indoors. The 23rd precinct is breaking the law to enforce the law."

"I was getting stopped and searched and I realized that it was the clothes I was wearing-- the same Northface jacket that everybody was wearing. The description of perps was always 'black puff coat, blue jeans, black boots. So now I wear a red leather coat or a white jacket, pea coats and coats from Old Navy. I have gotten my life together and they were still bothering me. I was born and raised in this neighborhood, and when I was growing up, between the ages of 15 and 25, I was stopped and frisked about 100 times a year. I haven't experienced it as much lately. I think it's because I changed my clothes. I wear my scrubs everywhere. I think it's because I'm forced to prove that I'm a working man. I carry all my professional ID's just in case."

"In the last week, I've been stopped and frisked 8 times. I just got a summons because I was riding a bike in the street. They stopped and frisked me and issued a $25 summons. On average I'm stopped and frisked every day in the 2-3. Never in the Bronx where I'm from. It makes me feel like I can't even go to the store. I don't even walk down 1st Avenue with my hands in my pockets."

"On October 29th this year I was on the pier by the FDR, around 18th Street, sitting with my female friend. It was between 5 and 6 o'clock at night. I only had a cardigan on that day, and I was kinda cold, so I had my hands in my pockets. They were undercover cops who were sitting in a car along the highway. I didn't even notice them. They came over to us and asked why I had my hands in my pockets. He said, "Do you have anything on you? If you lie to me, I will arrest you." He made me stand up first, and he checked my pockets. He looked in my friend's pocketbook. They said the reason they stopped us was because I had my hands in my pockets. I'm black, and my friend, she's Peurto Rican. Did they stop me for the way we look? If you look around here, they mostly stop blck and Hispanics. Yes, recently it's starting to escalate. If the cops even said sorry, I didn't hear it."

I did this feature over the course of two hours at Ardon Sweet Science Gym in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. I've been thinking about doing a longer project on the subject. The project features boxers Anthony Pena, 12; Jason Placencia, 10; and Ahmed Demes, 13. Tyler Vivas is the 6-year-old featured in most of the images. The last image is of Tyler, his father, and his grandmother.

BROOKLYN (WPIX) - A double shooting at 120 Chauncey Street, near Malcolm X Blvd., in Brooklyn has left one man dead and another wounded, the NYPD said. / Police were called to the shooting just after midnight Tuesday and discovered a 24-year-old Hispanic man shot once in the head. Emergency Medical Service personnel pronounced the victim dead at the scene./ A second victim, described as a 36-year-old black man was shot in the right arm and was taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition, according to police./ Police in the 81st Precinct continue to investigate. No arrests have been made at this time.
